People with mental illness, especially those with limited resources, have traditionally had little choice, few alternatives and limited control of their treatment. Many have not received the kind of support that is most conducive to their recovery.

 

There are people who want a complement to their traditional mental health treatment. Others are looking for an alternative to the prescribed regimen of traditional mental health services, and too often there are people who simply slip through the cracks.

 

On Our Own serves Charlottesville-area residents who are mentally ill by providing the complement, the alternative, the net—a choice. We are a unique, local organization run by people with mental health concerns for people with mental health concerns.
